#1 Background
We are a small but rapidly growing IT Company based in the south of England. We mainly deal with SMEs, but also work with much larger companies on specialist projects. We already employ a small number of engineers and the workload is becoming too much for them. We are not yet ready to take on another engineer full time so are looking for someone to help out with remote support.
#2 Scope
The work is open to individuals of any nationality, but preference will be given to those based in the UK as there is the scope for on-site work as well as remote work. Obviously being located near our main customer base in the UK (Swindon) is an advantage in this respect. If English is not your first language we expect a very high standard of written and spoken English.
Required skills:
Windows desktop (XP, Vista, 7)
Windows Server (2003, 2003SBS, 2008, 2008SBS, Exchange)
Applications (MS Office 2003, 2007, 2010)
Desirable skills:
Google Apps Premier
Basic Cisco (routers, switches, PIX/ASA VPN)
VMware
Sage ACT
LINUX
Work will be allocated via a ticketing system and will all be in normal UK office hours (08:00 to 18:00 GMT) unless by prior arrangement. Please bear this in mind if bidding from outside Europe as the time zone difference could make it very hard for to meet the SLAs. A quick response is essential as our maximum SLA is usually 4 hours. We usually at least acknowledge the call within the first hour however. Response for ‘network down’ calls has to be as quick as possible. Remote support is done via GoToAssist.
#3 Deliverables
Examples of typical tickets you would be dealing with are:
I can’t see my shared drive
I can’t print
I can’t access my email
How do I set up a shared calendar in Outlook
Move a switch port to a different VLAN
Add a VPN user to the firewall
Set up new accounts on a NAS or Windows server
Build a new Windows server on VMware
Advanced notice must be given if you are unable to respond to tickets (i.e. when you are on holiday or sick)
#4 Other
How this is paid is largely up to you; it can either be per incident or a fixed monthly fee. The project size does not allow for recurring work very well, so don't let the £250 maximum put you off; there is the potential to earn far more than that over the [login to view URL] number of incidents is currently low (maybe 2 or 3 per week) but is due to increase in the new year as we take on more customers.
For those living in the Swindon area there is the opportunity for on-site work in the local area and if interested, either a full time role or contract later in 2011. It is not a requirement to be interested in this; it is just there if you are.
Please don't expect too much in the way of responses between 25th December and 3rd January as we are shut for the holidays. We will endeavour to answer all serious queries however.
