I am looking for a visual artist to create an installation / exhibition that will be displayed in Paisley over the weekend of Sat 1st and Sun 2nd July at the Sma' Shot / Weave festival depending on what it is. It can be an animation projected onto one of the historic buildings or on to the river or running on a loop on a Tv in one of the buildings or it can be an art exhibition of paintings, drawings or illustrations of images relevant to the festival or it can be a comic telling the Paisley weavers story or caricatures of weavers in an exhibition, anything using the famous Paisley Pattern, or something else that an artist feels could be representative of Sma' Shot or the Weave program. ‘Weave’ is a vibrant and colourful celebration of arts, activism and design, rooted in Paisley’s radical weaving heritage and connections across the world and centred on its unique, historical Sma’ Shot Day. Launching in 2017 as part of Scotland’s yearlong celebration of Heritage, History and Archaeology, ‘Weave’ will reconnect the town’s weaving heritage with its historic textile connections all over the world. Paisley's historic buildings and backdrops will play host to an exciting weekend long programme of music, design, visual art, poetry, dance, theatre, workshops and festivities for all the family. The festival, in Paisley's historic town centre, will begin with a celebration of its radical roots during the Sma’ Shot Parade on Saturday 1 July - an historic, colourful and social pageant telling the story of the weaver’s victory in a dispute with the mill owners over a small, but crucial, piece of thread (the sma’ shot) integral to the production of the world-famous Paisley Pattern. We’re looking for innovative and exciting proposals that will offer new perspectives on Paisley and its heritage - finding creative and surprising ways to tell the stories of what makes the town so unique to the world. We welcome all kinds of visual art from live and interactive, graffiti, design, textiles, photography, sculpture, to video and architecture.
