We need to import a very large xml file (almost 2GB!) with ebook data from Gardners (see [login to view URL]) into a new woocommerce database. So far we have split the file into about 1200 smaller parts and have written a script to convert the xml to the appropriate woocommerce mysql structure. This approach seems to work but the script takes about 20 minutes per part (locally) - multiply that by 1200 and boom - we will be doing this for ages! I am not even sure if this is the right way to approach this task, so we need a consultant to instruct us on how to go about this in the quickest way possible. Please, only approach us if you have any experience working with large amounts of data like this.

Hello! You are trying/aiming to do this completely outside(without ever involving) wordpress? It's definitely not the best way to approach, but for one-time imports could do just fine. Out of those 20 minutes per piece, how many go to the conversion part and how many for the actual import to the database? And how are you doing the piece import - phpmyadmin import from sql? Can you send over one of those piece files to run some benchmarks(for this I'd need to know the actual wc version) as well as full export(wp extended rss of couple of those products you have already imported(to pick up the needed field mapping for myself)? Hello. Ive' used to import 5GB xml file to WP :) My advice to you - DON'T make direct write to DB. True is that you even don't need to split file and write some scripts. I have solution which will help to map fields from file to WC fields and it will import all the data. Anyway, I can help you with this. Feel free to chat. Thanks and have a nice day.

Hi I would be able to create an import script, that will take care of importing the feed into site as product. It require direct import and cannot be done with addons as we used to. But, I think you have choosen wrong platform for a huge site. Wordpress/Woocommerce cannot handle such big data. You should have either gone to magento or other carts such as big commerce, oscommerce or zencart. Still if you want the script to be development, would be able to help. Please advise to proceed.
