Lead XML Content Developer

The Lead XML Content Developer role is responsible for the operational success of normalisation and contributes to the success of all print and digital products delivered within a digital content workflow for the Knowledge Solutions Division of BSI. The role involves working collaboratively with teams in Knowledge Solutions and Group IT and requires good supplier engagement practices when working externally with key contacts in other standard development organisations, consultants, freelance staff, content suppliers and schema developers. Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities Scope XML requirements investigate and document solutions, where relevant, working with project teams, external developers and the Product team • Represent Content Solutions in BSIs Innovation activities, keeping up-to-date with proposed technologies, industry trends and tools • Provide technical analysis, consultation, and development (XML-related or other) where required • Provide XML technical development work (XML-related technologies and other) to support the development of semantic, structural and reusable XML content within systems and tools: Content Model (DDs), eXtyles, ISO/NISO, Typefi, Normalisation, products • Technically assess the alignment of BSI adopted tools, technologies and tag sets, to the Smart Content strategy, through scoping technical requirements and XML analysis, configuration of tools, (re)modelling schemas, mapping automation pipeline • Define and document XML-first workflow processes, troubleshooting, and XML best practices to ensure content team workflows remain efficient and in line with industry best practises. • Analyse XML content to identify variance in mark-up, and which is not structurally appropriate or semantically rich and to investigate, assess, and document proposed and required changes to XML constructs by working with Group IT, external vendors, external SDOs, and appropriate internal teams to improve XML quality • Proactively develop and deliver education materials to the department including: XML Academy training to align XML-first teams to the Smart Content strategy; & innovation activity reports, for example, on Semantic Web Technologies (or related technologies)Assist with the editing and publication of XML content when required to ensure the department meets it’s KPIs for all digital and print products • Assist in the analysis of proposed new products to establish the XML requirements of new digital and print products • Undertake remedial content mark-up work in light of changing business needs or schema changes, and contribute to ad-hoc content analysis tasks and projects as required Key Performance Indicators • XML processes and support are effective • Effective supplier and stakeholder management in supporting processes or developing tools • XSLT Library is fully documented and updated • XML governance policies are supported and updated accordingly • XML Academy is delivering targeted training for internal stakeholders Skillset needed • Understanding and experience of XML production environments • Knowledge of XML Schema, XPath, XQuery, DTDs, XSLT, Schematron and other tools and technologies used in XML content analysis • Analytical thinker • Degree level or equivalent body of content publishing experience • Delivery focused • Decision making and problem-solving skills • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) • Ability to maintain a high level of performance under conditions of increased pressure I won't entertain any response from a person who has not read the requirements properly.
