Each finished hour of audio (i.e. I record, edit and master) takes 3 - 4 hours. For a 6 hour audiobook, I estimate 24 work hours. I record in my sound-treated home studio with professional equipment - AT4040 XLR mic and PreSonus interface. What I have done previously with authors, is break the payment into 3 milestones: $50 for the first milestone, which is a 15-minute checkpoint to make sure that I’m on the right track with the narration; milestone two is the first half of the audiobook for your review, and milestone 3 is the remainder after the final files are delivered.
