Create a Wordpress Template for Integrating GIS data and photographs

I am nearing the end of my PhD exploring conservation legislation boundaries and how they can lead a photographic response to the landscape. I need to create a website to display my doctoral research practice in a way that makes sense of the link between maps and my photographic practice. The practice relies on my following points, lines and polygons in the field using GPS. These are all generated using GIS. The website will need to display the link between the two, by displaying a map with the data as selectable layers, which then operates as a navigation device for the user to browse the galleries. There are 4 sites so each site will have a separate map, and each map will have multiple datasets that will need to be selectable. At the moment I imagine the map as the content within a page for each site, with selectable layers for different datasets. When a dataset is selected, the user can click on any of the elements displayed which will take them to a gallery. The gallery page will have the image in the content area and the map in a sidebar. As the user navigates left and right or up and down through the gallery the map updates with the location of that specific image. Importantly, the map will not only show points but in relevant cases polygons or lines that relate to the image. There should also be the ability to host a video instead of a still images gallery as one or two sites might have supporting videos following specific lines. As an example one site has 24 polygons covering a landscape. 1 photograph was made within each polygon. The user must be able to select a polygon for the image to display. When a user navigates the gallery the map should update to show the correct polygon for the image being displayed. A different site has 84 points. These points are specific and as such should be highlighted on the map when the corresponding image is displayed. It is also vital that the galleries can show caption information for the photographs, ideally beneath the image (certainly not overlaid). I can supply datasets in whatever format needed for development purposes (gpx, geoJSON etc). The final plugin should allow me to upload new datasets as required. Preferably the site will use the Leaflet Maps API but if this is impossible then Google Maps API is acceptable. I am familiar with WordPress so this doesn’t have to be a full template, it could instead operate as a plugin or a set of plugins. If a full template makes more sense though I am open to ideas. I am comfortable creating the site myself if given the plugin or template to use with my site. I am currently using the Genesis Framework on Wordpress, specifically with the Eleven40 Pro theme, but this can be changed if it isn't going to work.
