Hi there My name is Uthman Apatira. This is a really great idea =)! I'd love to see how the youngsters in my family would respond to this once completed. I think you hit the nail on the head with regards to the technology stack. I could develop this for you using PHP. The child's name, and other additional text could be injected onto the various pages realtime by the PHP script using PHP-GD, a graphics library that is part of php and allows us to manipulate images. I've used this before for a couple of projects, including a php drawing app I did here on freelancer that a realtor used to estimate the number of square feet on a home. You app idea would be a lot simpler since no mathematics would be involved. Page animations could be accomplished using CSS3, just like on the HippoBlue site. It's important to do it this way rather than use flash or shockwave... because this allows people to view the digital book on any browser and on any platform (phone, computer, tv, ipad, etc). I could also build a simple admin panel for you that would allow you to upload and publish the new page images, as well as set the template text you want to add it. For example "Today, {#Boy-Name} decided to go to the zoo" would have the child's name injected into it and rendered to the page. We could also add a little bit of logic, for example if the child views the book on his birthday, we could change up a few things up =). Anyhow, looking forward to working with you on this!
