Dear Scriptlance Programmers, First off, I am eager to get things going with this project and desire to establish a long-term business relationship with the right programmer(s). I am a full-time Internet Consultant with over 10 years tech experience. If you have the right skill sets and mindset, be prepared for many fun, challenging projects with bonus incentives! :-) This first project will require thinking "outside the box" and doing things vastly different than 99% of the web sites out there. I need a CGI/Perl script guru who can reach an END goal by studying a few competitive web sites & without having the luxury of accessing their server-side scripting (i.e reverse engineer as best as possible). You will take my white paper and detailed scope documents and use them as a general business rules guide. No fancy or flashy programming here. I just need "work-horse" scripts to create and run an initial portal site with approx 1700 categories. The scripts need to scale to a network of portals without issue. Code must be clean and modular and adhere to accepted programming standards for easy upgrading and scalability. No proprietary hooks in the code. The developed project code will be exclusively-owned by the buyer. Here is a general project overview: Go to [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] (the competition). Click around these sites, take note of the URL schemas, web folders, indexing schema, sponsored links and the "directory listings" in the body text area of pages. You'll notice each "category page" has a Title (headline) title tag, heading tag etc. Note the sponsored link listings. You may find this hard to believe, but the 27,000+ category pages in [login to view URL] and the 55,000+ pages in [login to view URL] were created with a batch process script. I need to model these sites almost exactly (In terms of the scripting and web content presentation layers). I have proprietary knowledge about these sites, but cannot list that info here. The winning vendor will receive a total "brain dump" of detailed script descriptions for these sites. All directory pages MUST have either an html or shtml extension. Directory Components/Scripts: 1) Batch-mode page generator (Admin script automating “category pages” creation) 2) Site Search function 3) Metasearch functions (with Admin panel needed to adjust search attributes i.e filters, restricted domains, search engine sources, restricted search terms, search results display rules etc.) 4) Content-specific Ad Delivery (I can supply a TURNKEY script outline with HTML code for this component!!) This one’s a no-brainer with what I’ll supply you. Script(s) Workflow: SCRIPT #1 All directory "category" pages, web cat folders etc. are BATCH created in ADVANCE with a web page/form template and simple business rules imparted by a (Perl?) script. This first script will take a flat file (MS Excel records) and will "auto-batch create" the directory pages upon uploading of the directory/folder names to the linux-based web server. Underscores in the Excel records are removed and CAPS are placed on the first letter of each word in the record name. These pages are created and "hard coded" automatically via the script. This script also inserts Page Title (headline), heading tags, title tags into the page. We use the xls data import (record name = category name) for the title tag, heading tag as well as the title/headline on the page. The business rules in the script will need to accomplish this in an automated fashion. Category pages are NOT generated "dynamically" when someone clicks through from the master directory listings/links. SCRIPT #2 TRANSPARENT metasearch script output will be a "dynamic" component in every directory page. This is how our "category pages" will get populated with non-sponsored listings (By back-filling the category page with metasearch output listings for the "category" name). So when a user (or indexing spider) clicks-through a “category link” from the master directory index, the page that is returned is: A hard coded page complete with: page title (headline), meta tags (heading tags, title tag), content-based text ads and sponsored links as well as transparent metasearch listings. Again, we use the "category name" for the title tag, heading tag as well as the headline on the page. This data is presented in the Body Text area of the returned directory page [site search, relevant sponsored links + transparent metasearch]. These are NOT linked from a conventional database!! It's done through web cat folders, text files (and keyword tags for content-related ads and sponsored links). The presented “category page” output is a combination of “transparent metasearch” results and the relevant sponsored links and content-specific ads in the body text area of the page. On top of the page is the page header (headline). Again, study [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] for brainstorming ideas and solutions. Script #3 RSS Feed Spider and Data Presentation Interface (Grab and Present). I need a stealthy spider script that can be used to grab news feeds/articles from all news categories from sites like moreover.com. Data needs to be stripped of branding and re-presented in my portal through a simple newsfeed interface. (Look at the news feeds at [login to view URL]). I want exactly the same thing with some minor mods. He wrote a script to pull [login to view URL] news feeds and integrate them into his site with his own branding. I need to do the same thing + offer simple “cut and paste” news search code to my visitors. Script#4: Automated link exchange interface. I need a script that will automate the link exchanging process. Cut and paste HTML code for site visitors to post outbound link (inbound to my site). For the outbound link (from our site), we call these "sponsored links" in our directory. These will need to display at the top of the metasearch results pages for the appropriate categories. Script needs to be capable of allowing people to "re-post" their links if they make changes to their own site. I can't be swamped with e-mail requests to manually update sponsored links. I’m flexible on how we can accomplish this and have some ideas. BIDDING Guidelines: Bidders must be willing to sign non-disclosure and contractor agreements. I prefer to work through a single individual or organization if possible for ALL aspects of this project. If you will use sub contractors this must be stated in your bid. In your bid please include project feedback, a short description of your methodologies and your confidence level for accomplishing the project objectives. If your feedback and response look promising, I will send you an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) to sign and return. (SHORT LIST). Once I receive the signed NDA, I will forward you the complete scope documents, sample HTML code and a short white paper I co-wrote with a former partner. Because these docs are proprietary in nature, I need a signed copy of the NDA before submitting them to the bidder short list. Once you receive these docs, you can study them, make your final bid and offer a more detailed description of how you will reach the stated goals. Your references, responses + bid amount together will be taken into consideration for the FINAL vendor selection. FYI, I am a 15-year business professional and I reward top performers based on results. Project bonus incentives ($$$) will be offered to the project winner. I want only the best person or people for this project. Time and professionalism are of the essence here. I am looking forward to finding the perfect script guru(s) for a long and financially prosperous business relationship!! Kind regards, Bob T.
