Research Paper

A long research paper (5-7 pages) that focused on two or three writers. I picked Charlotte Perkins Gilman, author of "The Yellow Wallpaper", Theodore Roethke, poet and author of "My Papa's Waltz". Many of them have things in common both in their personal and writing lives. It is up to you to effectively research them enough to be able to explain what those similarities are. The writers you research could have the same ethnic background, familial issues, or mental illness. They could deal with the same, or very different gender issues (especially if they are from two very different time periods.) The connection may be the genre of writing, or the way they approach creating characters, scenes, themes, plot, etc. There is no end to the things two or more have in common. The focus of the paper is your choice, but you must be able to bring the necessary threads of creativity together so that the reader can understand the tangible or intangible link(s) between the writers. You will need to include at least one creative pieces for each writer beyond what we have read in class to support your assertions about the similarities. Paper will include: • Offer a clear thesis statement at the end of a clear and inclusive introductory paragraph • Offer paragraphs that are well‐organized • Include biographical information for each writer from credible source(s) (Be sure to site your secondary sources) • Include historical or cultural research that supports the thesis • Use the writings of each of the authors to demonstrate the connections you have chosen to highlight • Include quotes from at least 2 credible outside sources that support your assertions • Total a minimum of 5 pages not including the Works Cited page • Follow MLA formatting guidelines and include a properly formatted Works Cited page
