Chose a topic related to American government. This can be something not covered in class, a policy issue, a historical topic related to government, foreign policy, etc. It is alright to choose something we covered in class; however, be sure to do research beyond your course notes and text. Use two scholarly sources, which include something found through Galileo, such as a book or journal article, that is not news. You can use news and the internet too, but you also need two scholarly sources. If your topic is very current, you can rely mainly on news, but find some underlying issue related to your topic that has scholarly study. This way, you can use scholarly sources for the underlying issue connected to your topic, but then discuss the current situation through news sources. Write 5-7 pages that are typed, double-spaced, and use standard font and margins. Use APA style for citations. A work cited page is needed at the end and does not count as one of the 5-7 pages. The paper can be either descriptive or persuasive, but either way, it must be based on fact. Be sure your facts are correct and unbiased and that you are not just writing a thought essay. This is a research paper that requires research and needs a clear topic/thesis and supporting facts that are organized around the topic/thesis. Good luck! The paper is due the day/time the university designated as our class’ final.
