Proofreader English

I registered with Freelancer in February this year and have 22 reviews, all positive. English is my first language and my skills include technical writing, editing and proofreading. I have worked as a transcriber and quality controller for 15 years, the second role entailing proofreading the work of other transcribers. My ongoing freelance work includes editing papers for an online journal for translators and interpreters. I recently edited a 65,000-word science fiction novel and the client was very satisfied with the result. This was the project I have most enjoyed, as the story was interesting and well written and my job was to spot errors rather than make substantial edits. Other recent work has included proofreading two complete theses as well as individual chapters of academic writing. For two years I was a copy editor for Elsevier Science Publishers in Amsterdam, rewriting text by authors who were not native English speakers. I have worked with individual clients to bring 12 books to publication. Having been a teacher of English in high school for several years, I have spent many hours making corrections to students' essays. If I know in advance the turnaround time, then I am able to finish jobs within several hours, as all my work is flexible. The price really depends on the amount of changes to the text that are required but a ballpark figure (which is negotiable) is UDS30 per 1,000 words. I expect to be able to proofread 5,000 words per day.

Hello, Thank you very much for your job offer. I have read the description, and have the skills necessary for this project. I have taken university-level classes on topics such as English, essays, documents, creative writing, languages, etc. and am a native English speaker with excellent English skills, as shown by the test scores. I do not have a degree in English, however I do have a college degree in Ethnic Studies, which is partly from German courses that I took for a couple years. This also improved my already very good English. I took creative writing and English classes in high school and university, and got mostly A. I would be the best candidate for you because of my very careful attention to small details and mistakes, and my knowledge of English. A project I liked a lot was proofreading an ebook written by a father for his children and others - sample available. I would like at least 16 hours notice, unless the problems in the text are minor. If not much rewriting is needed, I can charge $2/500 words, and do about 10 pgs/hr. Please see my reviews for examples of satisfied employers.
