digital design of serial peripheral interface using VHDL

Serial Peripheral Interface is basically used to allow the Microcontroller unit to communicate with many peripheral devices. The serial clock synchronises the shifting data serially through two serial lines. Master controls the interchange by controlling the clock line. SPI is a synchronous serial data bus. This report describes the design of Serial Peripheral Interface using VHDL and simulate using simulator. The transmitting and receiving parts are designed by taking the logic from the Parallel–in Serial–out shift register and Serial –in Parallel–out shift register. SPI interface is designed and then it is interfaced with Microcontroller bus interface. The microcontroller bus interface is designed to read, write and data transfer with the registers .Basically, Microcontroller interface helps a microcontroller to communicate with SPI bus .The data length considered in here is 8 bits. The data transfer is done serially in and serially out. The design is synthesised using XILINX 9.2.04i software. The overall design is simulated in XILINX Simulator successfully and simulated results have been observed.
