Real-world signals are often contaminated by noise. For example, signals recorded by electronic equipment are often contaminated by 50 Hz noise from the power supply. The aim of this laboratory practical is to design digital filters to remove or reduce noise present in signals. There are various kinds of noise. A filter is usually designed to reduce a certain kind of noise. There is not a filter that is capable of removing all kinds of noise. A noisy signal should be analysed before a suitable filter is selected and designed to reduce its noise. There are four noisy signals to be analysed and filtered in this practical. You will use the MATLAB SPTool to perform the tasks. **Preparation** Download ‘[login to view URL]’ to your computer from the unit’s website.
