While surfing the internet I came across this article “State-Space Methods for Controller Design” from university of Michigan. It has helped me a lot for solving this assignment. However,it has no mention of LQR method so I had to turn to the book “Modern control systems by Richard C. Dorf” for further consultation. The code provided below is not that much difficult to understand and requires 1 external code for computing Nbar. The values of K are obtained using MATLAB built-in function ‘acker’ where as the location of poles is determined from given data.K values for LQR method are also obtained using built-in function ‘lqr’.

The frequency sampling method creates an FIR filter byaliasing or folding hd[n]. If w[n] is an L-point rectangular window then h[n] is the primary period of h ˜[n]. In thiscase the approximation error is zero at the sampling frequencies, and finite between thembecause W(ejω) is a Dirichlet (periodic sinc) function. For nonrectangular windows, theapproximation error is not exactly zero at the sampling frequencies but is very close to zero,however, they have advantages in reducing passband and stopband ripples. To design FIR filters with linear phase we should incorporatethe appropriate constraints into the design equations. To assure that the sequence h[n] isreal and satisfies the linear phase constraints. h[n] = ±h[L - 1 - n]

The task assigned in this assignment is to design a low pass filter and then use digital filter transformations to convert this filter into some other type as mentioned in the assignment question. As my birthdate happened to be 5th may 1993, I have designed a Low Pass filter for odd specifications. I began with MATLAB built-in utility named “Filter Builder”, where I had to specify the stopband and passband frequencies in normalized form so I divided the given frequencies with sampling frequency to get the desired result. For example, the normalized passband frequency came out to be .2250 and normalize stopband frequency came out to be .3900. There I also had to enter the passband and stopband attenuations. Then after all the specifications I selected the option of generating MATLAB function that returns filter variable as shown below.
