More and more, businesses are realizing how important package design is when it comes to their products. Package design refers to the science, art, and technology involved with packaging certain products for distribution, sale, and use. It is absolutely integral to the launch of a product, and helps to communicate values and principles of the company or product, in order to help create brand loyalty.
This includes packaging that will actually protect the product during its distribution phase, to ensure that the customer receives a product that is not damage or defective in any way. This also includes graphics and labels that could entice the potential consumer in a retail atmosphere to have a look at the product, or look closer, and potentially make a purchase. It guarantees the safety of consumers, the fact that the product will be intact, while also promoting the company as a whole.
The recognizability of a company can be tied to package design, by consumers recognizing the shape of a Coca-Cola bottle immediately, or the iconic way that certain Apple products are packaged. The uniqueness of the package design can help communicate to the consumer that the brand is one-of-a-kind, which can encourage long-term loyalty, which means more market share for the company.
