Opencart vqmod cache error

I had an opencart installation working perfect in a sub folder, as soon as I move it to the root of the site an error is getting generated. I believe it is something to do with the vqmod, the developer who is no around at the moment said that when i moved it i had to delete the vqmod and re-install and then upload the xml files once installed. I have done this, however it appears that thje new vqmod is not creating the cache files. I believe this is an extremely easy fix for someone who knows what to do, the last guy did it in 10 mins.
