We are a retail tool company and have four locations in southern California. Recently we decided to upgrade our business management software to Everest ( by icode, more information about this application can be found at [[login to view URL]][1]). The problem we are currently facing is with importing the initial inventory into each one of our four locations. And since Everest does not allow you to import the same item into the system more than one time, the problem of having four locations with the same items but with separate inventory counts comes up. Our inventory details are stored in a text file that has the following fields “ITEM NUMBER?? “DESCRIPTION?? and “QUANTITY??. There are two solutions to this problem, one is we manually enter each item in each of the four locations (which we predict would take around 75 to 100 hours ) and two is by cheating the software itself. We simply manually create POs for each location with about 2,000 items each in Everest. This is easily done just by opening a PO and selecting 2000 items at a time from the items list. For example, if we had 20,000 items in your items list, then we would create 10 POs for each location and each of them having arounf 2,000 items. If you have 3 locations, then we would have 30 POs. Each PO would have the appropriate location code specified on the PO. We would also have spreadsheets for each of the locations.... text data files. We open the application and enter the PO number we want to update and specify the datafile to use. We click update and the application will update all the quantities in the PO. Logic is:

Look up PO

Locate item code in PO

Look for item code in datafile

If found, then update QTY on PO fro quantity field in datafile.

if not found, remove item from PO.

Finish

So after we finish running the application that the coder has written we will be left with a PO with just the inventory items which we can be received at each location. Hence solving our little inventory problem.
