WISP Network Consultant - 25/12/2017 02:55 EST
$2-50 AUD / hora
I am looking for a network engineer to help get my idea for a WISP (wireless ISP) service, off the ground.
This individual will require advance skills in:
- TCP/IP
- Network Design
- Mikrotik Routers
- Ubiquiti Equipment
- Network security
- Linux OS
Whilst I consider myself very technically capable, I recognise my shortfalls which prevent me from implementing this idea without outside help.
SKILLS
- Consult on the initial design
As a user of Ubitquiti equipment in the past to create wireless links, I consider this to be a familiar and functional brand.
I'm open to suggestions for other brands, but prefer to use one single brand throughout the network - (centralised management)
- Create a detailed network map – Including topology, IP, subnet, etc
- Share thoughts on ‘best practise’
- Ensure customers are unable to access any core (routers & switches) or outer components of the network (including touch switches installed at cust premises, APs or Long Range wifi antennas)
- Ensure that the network is secure
- Ensure that the network’s performance is easily monitored
- Develop processes for identifying congestion
GENERAL INFORMATION
Specific information will be provided to the chosen applicant however, what my plan to do is:
Use cable inet servivce (~500mbps), combined with secondary internet connections (4G + aDSL2) to create a redundant internet supply, share this wirelessly to neighbouring suburbs who are unable to get cable or even decent dsl speeds.
At each installation site, I intend to install an external hotspot so that my network is broadcast to all neighbours within a 180m radius.
This creating
a. paid hotspot service
b. advertises the main (fixed wifi) service.
My thinking is that each customer installation would include:
Base station -> Long Range Antenna ->
UBNT Tough Switch - > Hotspot on customer roof to provide hotspot access to surrounding neighbours &
-> internal AP to provide customer with internal WIFI coverage.
This is the main part of the configuration challenge that I face.
The customer should only have a SSID and a password to log on to their network.
They should also be able to plug in their devices to the remaining ports to get online without entering in credentials.
The key points to this design are:
- Creating a local network for customer whereby no login is required (RADIUS), but accurate billing takes place (DMA Softlabs Software unless a credible replacement is suggested).
- Equipment is accessible on the management side, but not to customer
- Customers can log on to any hotspot and use their plan quota
- A configuration template is built for equipment to be programmed in advance for new installations
- RADIUS accounting takes place at customer side and sent to accounting server, to minimise load on central router
- VoIP traffic is excluded from accounting
Job requirements – Emergency, initial, scheduled and long-term
This task will require four subsets of commitment:
a. Design and deployment – Initial
You will be required to assign in the initial design, consult on policies and help design configuration templates for the network.
This is likely to be the bulk of the work.
This time will not be critical and can be scheduled around your existing commitments.
b. Emergency
Should the network experience an unplanned and cause-unknown outage, you will be called upon to assist at short notice to diagnose and recover the network.
Ideally, the better the network is design and the higher quality the procedure guides are, the rarer these events will occur.
