Build/adapt a widget for WordPress

I am looking for someone to either build a new widget or adapt a widget I've already bought to display one of my wp categories in the sidebar.

Here's what I want:

-Flexibility - I don't want to have to redo this whenever the widget I've bought is updated. I had it exactly how I wanted it and then an update overwrote it (and my backup didn't work...).

-I want a few of the latest posts (I'll need the option to change how many) to show up on my sidebar with the following:

1) An image on the left.

2) The post title as the headline AND the link needs to link to a special data base field (which is already set up and is an external link field) rather than the post it's referring to.

3) On mouse-over, I want the headline to get smaller and the following line to show up (no caps): "Post on [DAY] [MONTH] by [AUTHOR FIRST NAME ONLY] | [#] comments [OR] comment [Where the author name and comments links are links to the relevant places]

4) I want it stylistically integrated with the rest of the site.

5) I want the ability to adjust the style as needed (I can work with the CSS, html, or PHP, I just need to know where to edit).

6) I want whoever does this to work with me to tweak it so that it looks how I want it to look at the end.

It shouldn't be all that hard for someone who knows the ropes. I just don't have the time to do it right now.
