Android App that uses speech recognition to calculate speech rate

The app calculates a user's speech rate (words per minute) using speech recognition

I need you to design an app that detects and displays a user’s speech rate (words per minute) using speech recognition. I need it to accurately detect and display speech rate when the user speaks at a slow, normal or fast speech rate (e.g. 50-200 words per minute). It will need to be 90% accurate or more (i.e. speaker says 150 words in a minute, it must detect at least 135 words per minute.

The app will need to omit silences longer than 2 seconds from words per minute calculations - otherwise, the displayed words per minute will be lower than it is in reality. The app will calculate the number of words spoken in a 15 second period and multiply this by 4 to calculate a words per minute value every 15 seconds.

Speech rate is to be calculated as follows:

[standard interval - 15 seconds] minus [any silences longer than two seconds] = [x]

[no of words spoken in above 15 second interval] divided by [x] = words per second

[words per second] multiplied by 60 = [words per minute]

Extra notes: Worked example of words per minute calculation:

15 seconds of speech made up of 6 seconds speech, a 4 second silence, then 5 seconds of speech. Total of 25 words spoken during these 15 seconds:

15 minus 4 seconds silence = 11 seconds of speech.

25 divided by 11 seconds = 2.272 words per second

2.272 x 60 = 136 words per minute
