I’m a native Portuguese speaker, freelance translator (English to Portuguese), proofreader, editor and reviewer. I have been also a journalist, for 32 years and I had editorial responsibilities at several national newspapers, in Portugal and in Macau, so I can say I have a command of Portuguese well above the average.
I have some experience in the translation of legal texts, but also in fields like Journalism, Media, Media Online and Political area. I was Head of Information Department from Macau Government Press Office, for five years (1986/1989 and 1993/1995), in charge of all contacts with foreign journalists.
I also worked as a translator, reviewer and proofreader, between 2010 and 2015, for a Macau Government Office, the “Office for International Law Affairs”. That office was in charge of translating all documents, decisions, deliberations and new regulations coming from international organizations, like the United Nations, the World Health Organization or the Universal Postal Union. My main job was to compare the texts translated into Portuguese with the original versions in English and French, in order to detect mistakes in the translations.
Since 2015 I have been working, in Macau, as a freelance journalist and freelance translator and proofreader. Most of the work I did was for lawyers offices and private translation companies. In 2017, I came back to Portugal and keep working both as a freelance journalist and freelance translator/proofreader.
