I'm a mechanical engineer - specialized in the industrial robotic field, 3D designer and modeler (from time to time and some projects I could make the functional prototype too). I'm doing product design, industrial design, reverse engineering, ideation, etc. I have over 15 years of experience working on various systems/devices across multiple industries, from concept to launch. 1 - pls have a look at this project, sort of similar with yours, just more complex - https://www.freelancer.com/projects/electrical-engineering/Enhanced-Battery-Bank-Enclosure (you realized that the negotiations and discussions took almost a month...) 2 - as the card reader needs to connect to the tablet via a usb cable, it really doesn't matter how the tablet will be oriented, but for sure will need a usb otg hub which to manage charging and connectivity 3 - while the prototyping could be made via 3d printing, the day by day use product/enclosure needs to be more resistant (the plastic used in 3d printing is quite friable and breaks very easily) 4 - you also have to be aware that prototyping via 3d printing and cnc milling are a bit different and the models, even alike about 90%, still have differences, so you have to decide what will gonna be... we could discuss all the details here...
