I have a need for a **local**? (Phoenix, AZ and Metro/Valley) freelance to assist me in managing, updating and optimizing a very busy website. I'm also in need of a technical assistant. I need a .NET developer with MS SQL experience, though perhaps both of these positions may interest you.

I am the technical manager for this website, the CTO as it were. This is a real and serious offer of work for the right person. My needs are vast and the software is advanced and complicated so there is much to discuss. I can easily offer 20-40+ hours per week and this will be ongoing indefinitely.

If your experience appears acceptable, an in-person meeting will be desired. This is work from home and requires a very proactive and engaged individual. Once you are vetted and trusted, the expectation is to delegate major portions of the system to you for you to manage and work on as you see fit.

## Deliverables

The .NET / SQL position requirement is straight forward: I need a .NET C# developer with MS SQL experience with a knowledge of source control. As I mentioned above I also need a technical assistant for a number of tasks. This draft position description below is for this other position. You may wish to take on some of these duties or you may find this position is better suited to your wide range of skills. Or perhaps you know someone else who is looking for work and this may suit them; I would appreciate any referrals. Operations Assistant Position Responsibilities User Support Respond via e-mail to user support requests via a standard IMAP e-mail account. 90% or more of these requests require a boilerplate response. The long-term desire is to implement a better (simple) user support system so the engineering of this would require your involvement. There is also a backlog of user support requests that need to be replied to, this will require a special boilerplate response. User support also leads to the identification of new features, services and UI enhancements as well as unexpected technical issues, so we'd want you to help identify and pass those along. Address Minor Software & Technical Issues Where appropriate, minor technical and web site issues will be delegated to you for resolution. This may be an integration/HTML issue, a JavaScript issue or a minor .NET issue that requires some research and guidance if not full implementation if possible. Draft Legal Responses The legal team requires certain simple reports consisting of database data. There is an application in the works that may benefit from your assistance but otherwise will replace the need to pull this data manually. Initially this task will require an understanding of Microsoft SQL and the current data structure. This does not require any engineering or discovery, all queries and retrieval logic will be provided or developed with assistance as needed. And these reports will only be drafts that will be reviewed thoroughly before being delivered to the legal team, you will not be responsible for them. E-mail Assistance If appropriate, when the time comes you may be asked to assist with my e-mail directly via an IMAP e-mail client. Ad Management We use an outside ad service, OpenX.org. This service will be coming in-house shortly and you may be asked to assist with that. Before and after that change takes place you'll be asked to help manage this ad serving system by creating accounts, managing ad zones, adding banners (that will be provided), etc. Content Management To manage content on the current site, updates have to be implemented manually. This requires manipulating SQL and HTML. Your help in the long-term will be requested for input regarding the new site and content management system. Draft Writer You may be asked to begin a draft of a report or an e-mail response or help in writing correspondence. You may also be asked to draft plans or checklists for maintenance, upgrades or other upcoming work efforts. Technical Research We are regularly researching resolutions to dozens of outstanding issues. Your assistance will be needed in researching web site issues, SEO issues, optimization options, new services or alternative service research, technology options and configuration options. Hardware Configuration The site currently runs on Windows Server 2008 and IIS (running in legacy mode). We also use Nginx running on FreeBSD. We have needs for minor hardware configuration adjustments (no on-site hardware management will be necessary - or possible). We may chose to implement a new firewall using a Linux based solution in addition to our current IPS/firewall solution so your assistance would be needed there too. Troubleshooting There are a number of outstanding issues and user complaints. Troubleshooting assistance will be needed in order to help identify problems and engineer solutions. Quality Assurance & Software Testing The current site and any future development or even a rebuild, will require thorough QA. The process doesn't have to be formal but it has to be good and thorough. Technical Operations & Maintenance There are a handful of operations that require hands-on attention. These are simple but manual processes and updates, etc. None of these will require engineering, they will all be provided with (at least informal) instructions. Integration & Development Where needed and appropriate, the site is undergoing many changes and a possible rebuild so we will take advantage of any skills you have as an HTML/CSS integrator, JavaScript/JQuery developer and/or .NET developer. More This description may not be complete. Sometimes there are one-off administration needs that you can help with, etc. Notes - You'll need to be a sub-contractor for my company, not directly for the owner of the website. - You'll need to maintain a high level of privacy, secrecy and be security minded with your work and all public and private communication regarding this client. - This (assistant) position is originally offered at $25-35/hr DOE for approximately 24-40 hours per week and while this is a remote working arrangement, in-person meetings and longer collaborations may be required at any time. - The position requires a wide range of efforts and proficiencies, everywhere possible we'll focus on having you do the work you most enjoy and are most efficient at completing. - A considerable amount of learning on the job is expected and acceptable. 1) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law.
