The Coder will create an Internet-based interactive website introducing a new concept intended to assist educators teaching children. This will be a website-based business. This process is interactive between the visitor and the website and involves sequential steps, each one of which when selected will determine the choices presented at the next step. We believe the requirements of this process will exceed the abilities of HTML and will require another software language such as PHP (or others) to work. The real users of this site will be adults who visit this site to help them prepare to teach/tutor/challenge their student. The children for whom they will be visiting this site could range in age anywhere from preschool to senior high school. The content for the site will be aimed at such children but all workings within the site will be for adults to use. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Thursday May 17, 2007 11:52:35 AM: We are receiving questions that we would like to answer so you can get a better idea of how the site will work. QUESTIONS: “Do you have an example of the questions at your site??? And, “The main thing I would like to understand is the exact process involved. You mentioned that it is an interactive site: what does it deal with, for example, what should the user see when he/ she is using the system??? ANSWER: From the way you are asking this question, we imagine you are thinking it is some kind on online testing site. It is not. Think of a teacher or instructor or tutor looking for some printable resources to use with her students. Think also of storing a great number of images and text content on the website and offering this content through a series of design/layout choices the visitor would select to formulate her output for local printing. We probably cannot get into more detail at this stage without asking you to sign a non-disclosure agreement in order for us to protect the intellectual property of a more detailed answer. QUESTION: “How old are the children? (teens/students/etc)??? ANSWER: The real users of this site will be adults doing things to help them teach/tutor/challenge their student. The children for whom they will be visiting this site could range in age anywhere from preschool to senior high school. The content for the site will be aimed at such children but all workings within the site will be for adults to use. QUESTIONS: “Can you provide an example of internet site, that is similar to the design you want??? “Describe the look and feel you would like- provide URLs for similar sites, if applicable?? ANSWER: The “look and feel?? of the site is fairly straightforward. You could look at a site like [login to view URL] not because we will be doing anything like they do but bec ause it shows a bright, cheerful, colorful site. In reality, our starting page would have very different content than the Disney page but we would hope would take on the cheerful, colorful appearance. As one would move through the process in our site we would expect ours would be easy to navigate, that the pages would “set up?? quickly and of course that all the code would work flawlessly! QUESTION: “Fully explain the process- is it a series of questions and answers with iterative questions based on previous answers??? ANSWER: Not really. It is a series of choices about the content, layout and printing of information. QUESTIONS: “Is there a need to authenticate or otherwise manage users??? and, “Do you need to archive data from user sessions? If so, what type of data-parsing ability do you need??? ANSWER: “Yes,?? on the authentication and management of users. There will be fees charged to “members?? of the site and there will be th e need for login name and password capture and storage, lon g-term. The site owner wants the ability to disable a “member’s?? access if the circumstances require it and be able to accomplish that from an administrative “entry?? to the website. We believe it may be helpful or necessary to store some amount of information from the user such as what they created at their last several visits in case they want to reprint their earlier work. The website will have full access to its own (not shared) MySQL database for all of this user-related information. Please give us your added questions as soon as possible. * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Monday Jun 4, 2007 8:57:13 AM: We are receiving questions that we would like to answer so you can get a better idea of how the site will work. If you have not already read the Q&A in the initial posting, please take a few minutes to do so as we think these earlier questions were very good and may be of some help to bidders. QUESTION: Are you needing design of this site done as well? Would you accept a bid for only the coding of the site? ANSWER: In fact we expect that we will do the bulk of the website layout, except that we realize a good bit of page layout will be done as part of the PHP coding. We have some page layouts done and these will be provided to the successful bidder to show our idea of how things will go together. If you wanted to do just the php coding and tell us to drop this chunk here and that chunk there, we could certainly live with that. We hope that process could lead to a less expensive price for the project, too. QUESTION: It sounds like you are just wanting to build a filter of questions that returns the user's preferred content based on their answers, a kind of search facility for them to locate their desired materials. Is that correct? ANSWER: Yes, that is kind of correct. Visualize a fairly large collection of content items: images, words, symbols, photos. A user would be able to dig around in that collection, choose things, gather them together and place them in a format and then print them on their local printer. QUESTION: Beside the ability to suspend users, what other administration tools do you want? (edit site content, packages, fees, upload information?). ANSWER: The primary administrative tools would be dealing with users/members and updating content items to add things to the choices the users have. Most of the rest of it will be handled by the website designer and not the so-called administrator. QUESTION: Can you tell us how the site will work and what type of information will be found on it, and how users will interact with the site. ANSWER: We already talked about the site content above. Users will interact with the site by navigating to it, signing in with user name and password, then go through a series of choices about what kind of content they wish to prepare, choosing the items to populate that content and then probably printing it to their local printer for further use. Finally, for your information, one of the bidders placed a bid which kind of made us think we may had mis-classified our project. We checked. We did not get the wrong classification. This is a MEDIUM business project and we will only entertain bids ranging in price from $1 to under $5,000. One of the bids we received was well over $10,000 and we simply will not and cannot afford that price. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding. PLEASE keep your excellent questions coming. We really want to get a good bid and get this project done! * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Friday Jun 15, 2007 2:40:47 PM: We want to address some last minute questions we have received: QUESTION: "So on each page, the user can choose to add a content item to their list and also click on options to further narrow down their choices of content?" ANSWER: That is correct. QUESTION: "What are the content items that they will print? pdf files, html, jpeg, etc?" ANSWER: Content items could include these things as well as simple text, graphic images like JPEG or GIF or TIF, or perhaps other similar things that would be printed out. QUESTION: "If you were able to give me a specific example of how a user might find the content he/she is looking for, I'd be able to post a much more specific bid." ANSWER: User goes to website and logs in. Wants to create a page of content to print at their local printer. User navigates to the content page(s) and selects several items from the content, chooses a page layout size and format, saves the choices on the website as part of their login/user information, then prints the content to their local printer. QUESTION: "Also, what kind of back-end power are you needing for setting up the various pages that filter the results?" ANSWER: We're not sure what you are asking here. If you mean whether information will be stored in a database, yes, probably MySQL. If you mean server hardware power, keep in mind that we will be placing this on a web-hosting server so its power is not an issue unless you tell us we need certain server speed to run the finished applications. If you have something else in mind, please clarify. PLEASE look at all the other questions and answers we have broadcast as we really want to get a good bid and get this project done properly! Good luck on your bids. ## Platform The website will run on a hosting farm computer which is probably Linux-based and uses Apache web-server. Visitors must be able to use almost any browser running on their computer to visit and operate this site.
