This is a fun little project, and I can have it done and delivered to you within 24 hours. All the operations you described can be executed through a single PHP script pass, so there is only need for a single AJAX request. There is a server-side library called Image Magick which comes installed by default with the vast majority of hosting services, which can handle all your conversions and even more, relatively easy. If you have that installed (it's likely you already, do, but you should check to make sure), this can be done in just a few hours of work. Ajax Image upload, crop, resize, rename, set file type, change color layer properties, and save to a specified location on the server. All of this is done live without a page refresh, the image will show up while the user is viewing the page.
