As for me, I have over 30 years of experience in sales, sales management, and marketing. My experience has been mostly with technical sales (software, publishing systems, SasS projects, etc.), but I've also sold advertising, printing services, marketing services, and other non-technical services. I'm located on the East Coast of the US, near NYC and Philadelphia, in the Eastern Time Zone.
As for prospecting, of course it will depend on the industry and/or primary benefits your software provides, but LinkedIn is one of the best prospecting tools available. I also have access to numerous lists of business owners if the software is business related. If those aren't appropriate (which I highly doubt they would be, but without knowing details, it's hard to say), there's always a basic Google search to track down a list of users to work with. The key is flexibility and persistence.
