Mowing lawns with the existing lawn mowers is a highly tedious and cumbersome task which requires a good chunk of anyone's time to be accomplished. Our desire is to bypass this effort and fully automate the repetitive process of lawn mowing. This can, not only rid everyone of a routine chore, but also save time for other, more productive activities.
Hence, the main objective is to manufacture a “self-driving Lawn-Mower.” The lawn mower should be capable of steering and navigating its way through various obstacles and hindrances that may occur in its path. It should successfully be able to mow an entire selected area with a high degree of accuracy. In addition to its primary purpose, the lawn mower should not compromise the safety of its surrounding (i.e., it should not pose a threat to any individuals or pets in close proximity). Also, it should not try to cut through anything other than grass and should have the ability to distinguish grass from other flora. The grass being cut, should be stored in a specially designed chamber to keep the process as tidy as possible.
The lawn mower should be portable, so that it can easily be carried around and it should be ergonomically designed so that it can easily be kept inside anyone’s home or garage comfortably. The objective is to create a light-weight, rechargeable device, which can work up to 4-5 hours in a single charge. The machine should preferably be emitting as little noise as possible so as to not cause a lot of noise pollution.
