Hello,
Task Overview:
We are construction consulting company interested in developing lower cost alternatives for clients when providing inspection services for balcony/deck inspections. There are generally 5 elements that are required for inspections required by law which include (Stair Landings, Front Entry Decks, Private Decks, Stair Towers & Bridge Decks). Per the senate bill, we are required to inspect a sufficient number of elements to provide a minimum 95% confidence level (making margin of error no more than 5%). We need to be able to calculate numerous sample size options that will be reflective of the total population as to provide a proposal based on inspection of the number of elements in our sample sizes. We can also add variables, such as including pre-determined failures into the calculator.
Our Goal:
We would like to develop a formula (Preferably in Excel) for calculating numerous sample size options that will be reflective of the total population as to provide a proposal based on inspection of the number of elements in our sample sizes. We can also add variables, such as including pre-determined failures into the calculator to assure the required 95% confidence level. This way, we can provide alternatives for each client to have lower cost options other than just the 100% inspection of all elements.
We are open to discussing all options recommended by the statistician for achieving this goal.
Thank you,
My convincing approach to my client about this project would be to explain the benefits of having a formula that can calculate numerous sample size options with a 95% confidence level. This formula can be used to provide lower cost alternatives to the client instead of having to inspect all elements. Additionally, I would point out that the formula can be adjusted to include predetermined failures to ensure the 95% confidence level is achieved. By using this formula, the client can save money and time on inspection services. Finally, I would emphasize that we are open to discussing all options recommended by the statistician for achieving this goal.
