Factorial designs are widely used in experiments involving several factors where it is necessary
to study the joint effect of the factors in a response. The most important of these is called the 2
k
factorial design which is particularly useful in the early stages of experimental work when many
factors are likely to be investigated. It provides the smallest number of runs with which the k
factors can be studied in a complete factorial design.
In this project you are going to design software to facilitate a 22
factorial design that generates a
full ANOVA table and a full regression model and associated data for the three dimensional
surface response plot. The data can be outputted to a file in the appropriate format and linked to
a spreadsheet.
The software solution should give have two running modes – one with set data read in from a
file, the other having the user input the appropriate 2 Factor 3 Replicate combination from the
keyboard. The user should be offered to choice of mode.
Key Project Deliverables
• The software should facilitate the efficient input of data that creates the minimum
number of individual variables.
• All calculations should use compact reusable functions.
• The final ANOVA table should be output to both a data file and the screen in an
appropriate readable format.
• The regression model surface response data should also be output to a data file in an
order that facilitates the datasheet plot.
• A novel way to overcome the F-distribution data should be a key element of the project –
i.e. how to read tabular data using two variables.
• The problem design should include a flow diagram structural design of the software.
