Here what has to be done -
After reading Next: the future just happened you will write an essay based on your reaction to the book. This is not a book report! It's about your reaction to and interpretation of what the book has to say.
There are three points you must address. You are free to add your comments on other aspects of the book, but you must address these three points.
1) This book was written before the Enron scandal became front page news. The author relates the story of a New Jersey teenager who is pursued by the SEC. But he also talks about “major Wall Street firms”, the “professionals”. In light of what has become known after the Enron, WorldCom, Tyco and now scandals involving mutual funds, floor traders, stock options for top executives and oil companies what is your reaction to the comparisons the author made about how the SEC went after a teen-ager while leaving the professionals alone? What comparisons did the author make? What is the role of technology in all of this?
2) There is a lot in this book about the breakdown of old rules and values. Old rules and values that don't seem to apply to much of the things we can do with the technology that we have today. While this can make things seem chaotic it may be that having vision is the answer. What is vision? Do you think that vision is an important characteristic for a business or political leader?
3) Finally, what does the title mean? That the Future arrived recently? Or that it arrived by accident?
