Persuasive Speech writing

Topic: prostitution should not be legal in the US Core assignment: A team of 2 will debate another team of 2 on a Proposition of fact, value, or policy on a set class date. The format for the debate will be as follows: Affirmative team presents opening arguments (7 - 10 minutes) Opposing team presents their opening and rebuttal to opponents (7 - 10 minutes) Affirmative team presents second set of arguments and rebuttal to opponents (7 - 10 minutes) Opposing team presents second set of arguments and second rebuttal to opponents (7-10 minutes) Q&A: Both teams responds to questions from the class and their opponents (10-15 minutes total) Opposing Team presents closing statement (3 minutes) Affirmative Team presents closing statement (3 minutes) Class time will be given to meet with debate team and prepare. Teams are behooved to meet or coordinate preparation efforts outside of class as necessary to meet the deadline. On the day of the debate, team debate preparation outlines are due, typed. Your Debate Prep must include and clearly identify: Your Team Member Names Your position/issue Arguments advancing your position; claims/reasons are underlined, support is clearly listed with sources cited. Anticipated arguments of the other team. Refutation: Your team's attacks of your opponents' arguments AND your team's defense in response to your opponents' attacks on your arguments. Include both counter-claims and support. A bibliography, APA style of all your sources. Optional: include your team's introduction for segment I and the closing argument. Extra information: Each person must prepare a 7-10 minute persuasive speech to convince the class to vote for your position. You also want to prepare refutation of anticipated objections and have other material on hand to use during the Q&A. Finally, you must be ready to present a brief closing argument; typically a summary of your major arguments with a clincher. Depending on the amount of material/evidence you have, you may only have TWO main points/arguments, plus a couple of counterarguments in your 7-10 minutes. I would recommend having at least 3 well-supported arguments for your 7-10 minutes, and then prepare at least 3 counterarguments/refutation to have on-hand to include during Q&A or if you have additional time in your opening segment.
