I run a wordpress site whenever we got some high traffic site doesn't open. Our server admin said
"Please use Innodb engine for those tables that need high volume of modification. It will avoid table level locking. High number of traffic to the server also can the problem. I suggest to go for Innodb engine might save some server resource. Also try to use indexing for those tables have high access and make sure SQL queries are using indexes. With explain command you can find what is weight of a query"
Some info of website
OS is CentOS 6.5. The database size is less than 1Gb. It is common WordPress website with some plugins and have high hit ratio.
