We need to scrape the venue database from [login to view URL]
It must create an associative array with the indexes stated below:
'name' => venue name
'phone' => phone number
'address' => street address
'city' => city name
'state' => two letter state abbreviation
'zip' => zip code
'subcategory' => the subcategory of the bar (for example Bars & Clubs
> After Work would be After Work)
The array should be serialized and saved to a file. Each city should
have a separate file.
note: we want the script, not the serialized data.
I can do this. Is there is a specific reason that you need to have the data in php serialized format? The reason I say that is that php isn't that great at web crawling. The same thing could be done with perl and perl modules in 100 lines of code, and I can encode the data into php serialized objects in a file. Did you plan on running the PHP script in a cron job? Or do you want a script that scrapes the site when executed from the browser? That will be slow to the user. It looks like there aren't a lot of records on that site it should be fairly simple to crawl that site and get all the records on a nightly/weekly basis.
