Data Overlay on Animated Gif

I have a software program that has a data grid which is placed on top of an avi background. Currently the data grid is not transparent but it needs to be. The software is written in VB.NET and uses an SQL database. If you know how to make a transparent label on top of a picture box playing an avi with mci commands please reply to this bid.
