We are a hearing research laboratory.? We currently use Digital Performer to present an 8-channel signal through a MOTU? 828mk3 audio interface to 8 speakers arranged in a sound booth.? In the current design, noise is directed to all 8 speakers and speech is mixed with the noise in one speaker.? The listener is positioned in the center of the speakers, facing the speaker that will present both speech and noise.? A sentence is presented at a given signal-to-noise ratio? (SNR) and the listener repeats it.? If the listener is able to repeat the sentence, then the? SNR? is decreased and another signal is presented.? The? SNR is increased if the sentence is not repeated correctly.

We have a digital performer interface that allows us to select the SNR by muting or unmuting boxes on the display.? We would like to develop a user-friendly interface that displays text of the sentence presented, allows the experimenter to? enter (via button press) if the sentence was repeated correctly, vary the SNR? based on the response, trigger? delivery of the next sentence in the running noise,? and track performance (SNR? presentation levels)? throughout the test.

We can supply the current files used in digital performer and written reguirements for the adaptive procedure.

The interface will need to do the following:

4)? ? ? ? Allow user to select initial presentation level of fixed signal

5)? ? ? Allow user to select the starting signal-to-noise level?

6)? ? ? ? Allow user to initiate testStart button to begin test

7)? ? ? ? Allow user to report if sentence was repeated correctly through Yes / No button or keypad option to determine change in SNR (and trigger presentation of next sentence)

8)? ? ? ? ? Use a 1 up / 1 down procedure with 4 dB step size for first 2 reversals and 2 dB step for remaining sentences

8)? ? ? Calculate mean SNR for final 6 sentences
