The project shall develop a collaborative filtering mechanism for a news based website. This system shall rely on item-based filtering algorithm [login to view URL] You may have seen such a system in place at [login to view URL] What needs to be done: A) Collecting Click-Troughs Wee need to use Javascript On-Click Events to save information in a cookie and in our database (MYSQL). Whatever a user clicks on our pages needs to be tracked. B) We need a simple implementation for the algorithm as outlined above so that we can select 'related news items' via a simple SQL statement. C) We need to show recommended links to our users. Additionally we need to show an automated thumbnail to make it easier for our users to know what is behind the link. The insertion of these links/ pictures shall be in real time but if performance issue arrive can be cached as well (we already have a caching algorithm. We need expert experience in these technologies: - JavaScript, MySQL, Perl - Ideally the coder should have experience with Movable Type (but not required)
