I have a existing web app which sends emails to users for things like 'new signup', 'reset password', 'order receipt', 'order shipped', etc.
For each type of email to be sent, I have a text file on the server which is the 'template' for that email. Inside the text files there are strings like '{first-name}', '{last-name}' to identify variables. Then there is a 'GenerateEmail' function which reads the specified text file, does find/replace on the variables, and then sends a plain-text email.
It is too hard to manage all these text files sitting on the server, there is no way to preview an email, and it doesn't support HTML emails.
I want to replace this with a web-based "email builder" which allows the user to:
1) select an HTML email layout from a list of available layouts
2) customize the text and graphics in the layout
3) insert 'variables' into the layout from a list of available variables
4) see live preview of what the final email would look like
5) save completed email templates to the database
6) generate actual emails given an email address and variable values
7) integrate with SendGrid for sending emails and analytics
I will be integrating this code into an existing product, but all you have to do is create a stand-alone application that can perform these functions, and I will integrate it.
I have purchased 'Delicious Mail' templates from ThemeForest, so these are the 'layouts' that the user can select:
