Write an Android application

Project require design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT) app ths is well considered regarding its place in society and the individual user. The work will be assessed through two components: software development and a written report. The report will be a short piece of writing (max 2500 words) describing the continued instrumentation of society and critically appraising the effect this has on its citizens, and the effect it may have in the future. From this theoretical context, you should develop (design, describe in the written component) and ultimately demonstrate a working IoT application: In technical terms, you must design and deliver a ‘connected’ mobile application and development/sensor board implementation, with supporting cloud web services. You should use the development tools covered in the module. Your mobile application must address the following: 1. Use one of the phone sensors to create a useful end-user interaction AND display data from your cloud REST service; 2. One or more data stream(s) created by a sensor connected to a development board (Raspberry Pi), and published to your cloud REST service. Regarding the second data stream, this should be delivered by a system created by yourself. You should implement a ‘connected’ remote sensor using a development board such as the Raspberry Pi, that collects data samples from the sensor (e.g. Humidity, temperature, ambient light, or any other suitable sensor). The sensor should periodically transmit, or be initiated by the end-user, data from the Pi to a cloud-based service of your own creation. You will need to implement this service so that it stores data and provides access to it in a well-considered manner (e.g. ideally via a RESTful API interface). You must design your application from the ground up but you are free to use (or re-use) code supplied in the workshops or any other public domain source so long as you acknowledge this where appropriate. You should focus your efforts on delivering a working mobile application with robust functionality, and communication with the developed development/sensor board services and APIs. Documenting your application’s development You must supply a written report containing three succinct sections, providing a discussion of your application on the following: i) background, ii) implementation, and iii) Resources and References. i) Your background section should briefly state your application’s scope, the topical area of interest, and your motivation as to why you did it with reference to other relevant third party applications and academic literature; (1 page) ii) The implementation section should discuss your core development choices and describe any particular difficulties you encountered in your programming. You should highlight any advanced features implemented in your application including use of sensors, storage methods, use of third party libraries etc. and the basics of your networking communications and error handling; (2 pages) iii) Code reused from the workshops and external resources must be listed in the Resources and References section.
