I will explain how it works.

Hi, The only issue with this type of devices is charging the collar. I think we need to add smart flexible solar panel to each collar. Wireless charging is also possible (when cows are in their farm close to the base station) Actually there is a low power wireless transmitter in the collar which transmits the signals to the base station after some time interval. it works at low frequency to get more range. Range can be controlled by fixing the output power. At collar the controller knows the coordinates of the base station so it will compare the base station coordinated to is position and will set the power according to it. I have experience in RF designs and can do this easily.

I have made a similar project project - a collar with two PSB's: ZigBee or Bluetooth, 1MB additional SRAM, UART and SPI interface in the right PCB and GPS receiver, gyroscope and accelerometer in the left.
