SMARTIES I'm a linux server administrator and I can help you fix your apache bind error as well as setting a script to email the daily database backup. How ever for emailing database, the database needs to be relatively small as most ISPs will not accept large email attachments. FTPing the backup or some other similar method is more suited if the backup is large.

SMARTIES! Nice idea. About your problem with apache, it seems another process is hooking to port 80. It can be the same apache process not correctly dead. Sometime it happens on a really busy server. About the mysql dump, it is a simple task. About me, I am 38, italian, Linux system admin from a long time with a love for everyday challenge like yours.
