The Basics: Publish a children's book titled, Where Do Pearls Come From? Nitty-gritty: Where Do Pearls Come From? is a children's book about your average, sniff-crazy and curious Bloodhound pup named Pearl. Pearl lives with her two moms, Christina and Britney, and her two siblings, Macaroni and Coco. Pearl had been waiting for summer for as long as she could remember, because she would finally be old enough to go to Camp Pup 'n' Sniff, a one-week day camp specifically tailored to Bloodhounds and their love of sniffing! Pearls first day of camp was so exciting, there was a lake,trails, toys, and most importantly, LOTS TO SNIFF! The first camp activity was an ice-breaker event in which each camper was instructed to bring in a picture of their family and share the picture and a story about their family with the other campers. Pearl enthusiastically volunteered to present first and proudly showed off a picture of a family picture including her two moms and two siblings. She noticed that all of her camp-mates were looking around the room in a confused manner as she showed off the picture and even one camper howled out and asked "Why do you have two moms? Where is your dad? and why don't your brother and sister look like you?" Confused and embarrassed, Pearl walked off the stage, quietly sat in her seat, and continued to watch on as the other campers took their turn showing family pictures and telling stories about their lives at home. When Pearl's moms came to pick her up at the end of the camp day they were very excited to hear about all she had done and learned on her first day at Camp Pup 'n' Sniff. However, Pearl sat quietly on the ride home, replaying the questions in her head that the camper had howled to her earlier that day. "Why do I have two moms?," "why don't I have a dad?," and "why don't I look like Macaroni and Coco?" Pearl's moms could tell something wasn't right and once home, they sat her down and asked her what was wrong. Pearl explained what had happened at camp that day and how she felt so confused about her family at the moment. Pearls moms kissed her on the head and explained that not all families are made up of a mom, a dad, and siblings that look alike. Families come in all shapes in sizes, sometimes there are two moms, sometimes there are two dads, sometimes there is a mom and a dad, and sometimes there are aunts and uncles, and even grandparents. A family isn't defined by who is in it or what you look like, it is defined by the love that you have for one another and the support that you provide for each other. Pearl felt a lot better about the conversation that she had with her moms and went to camp the next day excited to answer the questions that her camp-mate asked her the day before. When Pearl arrived at camp she asked the camp counselor if she could try again at her presentation, got up on stage, proudly displayed her family picture and explained that even though she may not look like her brother and sister and even though she has two moms instead of a mom and dad, her family is just the same as all of the other campers!
