Excel - automation using macro, formulas, data comparison, data validation, data consolidation into one sheet, bringing graphs and summary using click of a button. MS Access - Design user entry forms, build business logic required and bring up reports. Used them extensively. I could design the system in either of these. MS Access would be more user friendly interms of screen inputs. Same via Excel can be implemented to get the SKU, Item description, date listed etc, depending on the criterion you wanted can list all items that meet the criteria and that could be mailed as well.
