The course uses an active, workshop-style approach that ensures everyone participates in analysing an example product, creating real scenarios and refactoring them as a group. ==== Agenda ==== • Speaking a common language • Making user stories power effective conversations • Why describing behaviours can help drive product development • Writing scenarios using 'Given, When, Then' • Using scenarios to break down large user stories • Expressive Gherkin and advanced scenarios • Modelling current process and identifying where BDD fits in • Discovering methods to help us challenge assumptions • Live demonstration of automated testing using Cucumber • How to make BDD work for you, in the context of your environment ==== Approach ==== At the heart of the workshop is a product backlog that requires improvement. This provides the opportunity to identify many of the issues teams face when trying to define, develop and deliver software. Time is given to discuss any barriers to adopting BDD in the attendee’s workplace, and how these may be overcome. The basics of Gherkin are covered and participants are given the practical experience to get started, before exploring some advanced techniques and taking a look at automation. By working together through the exercises, participants understand how to engage in a collaborative process to successfully take an idea from vision to reality, and leave the course knowing how to get started. ==== Outcomes ==== People attending the course will leave with the following knowledge and skills • An understanding that better products arise from people working in business and technology collaborating effectively • Practical experience in using BDD scenarios to bridge the gap between business and technology to promote a shared understanding • A vision for using BDD tools and techniques to drive good quality interactions, build living documentation and integrate automated testing into their process • Confidence to get started knowing that iterating gradually towards this vision will lead to many benefits before full scale BDD with automation has been achieved
