Good day,
I am a former head of a proofreading department turned freelancer. My experiences with proofreading and working with such a varied group of writers make me an ideal candidate for the editing and proofreading you need.
Having proofread countless newsletters, Web sites, academic and legal papers, as well as books, scripts, short prose, and poetry being submitted for literary agent/editor acceptance and working with an author’s submission service, I have the solid and necessary know-how to make your work perfect before going into print.
I've proofread memoirs, lots of fiction (most recently, Civil War, YA, religious, and sci-fi novels), how-to and self-help books, cookbooks, dieting regimen books, etc., and I've worked with actors, directors, TV and screenwriters, as well as professors, among many other types of writers.
Much of my previous work experience has been in assisting, editing and proofreading, data entry/processing, and customer service, which are all essential skills needed for freelance proofing. The tools and techniques I have learned from this industry apply directly to the skills proofreaders need—the skills you seek—quick turnaround time, knowledge of the many and ever-changing grammar rules, eagerness to work, knowledge of legal and medical terminology, and knowing how to research and verify dates, topics, historical facts, etc.
I am accurate, speedy, and reliable, as well as proficient in MS Office, WordPerfect, and Adobe, among other software. I am also well-versed in AP-style writing, Chicago Manual of Style, and Gregg Reference Manual.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to working with and assisting you.
Have a great day,
Joi
