C++ project to create Goldchase game

I am very proficient in c, c++. I have 15 years c++ developing experience now, and I have worked for 5 years. My work is online game developing, and mainly focus on server side, the language is c++ under linux. I used c++ to make many great projects, for example, I made the tools which can convert java files to c++ scripts which has the same effect, of course garbage collection included. Hello! I am a student (master degree) in sphere of Applied Mathematics and Informatics and I also have an experience of software engeneering. The first question about your task is: is it crutial what tools and OS to use? I can implement the solution for this problem by using System V IPC ("sys/ipc.h", "sys/sem.h") , so I want to stress that the solution will work only for Unix. About my experience in this field: I have worked with shared memory and unix semaphores when I got interested in it, so I written some illustrative tasks (these tasks were similar to your project) just to understand these things.
