Hello,
I am a licensed clinical social worker in the DC Metropolitan area, whose specific area of interest are not only children and families, but working with women and queer specific issues in individual and group mental health settings. Even though I have written for various research projects and publications, I am starting to get more into writing more consistently, specifically in blog format through my personal blog socialworkfortherestofus.blogspot.com. Within the past few years, I have contributed to major online publications such as Huffington Post and Tagg Magazine, and have previously been a regular contributor to websites Bauce (formerly The Liberette) and BrotherhoodTV. My extensive experience with adolescent, teen and young adult women in school, community and therapeutic settings gives me the ability to not only speak their language and come up with the best way to connect, but also make sure I am conceptualizing their concerns and issues without stereotyping or guesswork. This allows me to be true and authentic to the souls of women. I would love to have the opportunity to represent a wonderful organization in its efforts to empower young women to overcome academic, social, and emotional difficulties so that they can reach their full potential in all facets of their lives. Give the chance to write and express these thoughts and ideas for your blog would be an honor.
Thank you,
Shane'a Thomas, LICSW, LCSW, LCSW-C
