Migration of 4 VM servers into Azure using the ASR utility from Microsoft.
These 4 servers are all virtual servers on a single physical VMWare host at a remote site named Site A which does not have WAN connectivity in to Azure, so they will need to be migrated to the Main Data Centre first, which does have WAN connectivity to Azure cloud.
Virtual Server FS1 is a File Server and has an F: Drive which is 1024Gb, This exceeds the maximum size permissible in Azure (which is 1023Gb currently) so it needs to be re-sized. In order to do that a new logical drive needs to be created of say 1023Gb (I have confirmed storage is available to do this. There is space on one of the local datastores in Site A, to create a new virtual disk for that file server at say 1023gb, robocopy the homedrives over to new drive, update DFS paths so users access new drive, then delete the old virtual drive."
Use VMotion to migrate each VM to a Staging Server in the Main Data Centre - this already exists. then Use ASR to migrate each VM from Main Datacentre to Azure (Ireland, which is the closest Azure Point of Presence in the UK where customer have access)
OS on each of the VM's which are as follows.
Name Operating System C: / OS Drive Size SQL Version
FS1 Windows Server 2008 R2 60GB
APP1 Windows Server 2008 R2 70GB
APP2 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 200GB
SQL1 Windows Server 2008 R2 60GB SQL Server 2008 R2
I need to develop test environment, HLD, Migration efforts and Migration Checklist ( pre requisites wrt ASR and VPN or Express Route to connect to Azure Cloud).
