I would like a short English law essay on a case study please. Case Scenario:
The Baker Family:
Ted Jones – age 35, step-father to Sam – white British
Diane Baker – age 21, mother to Sam – white British
Sam Baker – age 5 years
Telephone call to duty social worker (children’s services) from Mrs Smith, St, Paul’s Primary School. Mrs Smith is concerned that Sam Baker has been missing a lot from school recently, and when he does come to school, he looks unhappy, and unkempt, and the other have begun to avoid him as he has become increasingly aggressive, children tend to avoid him as he gets into a lot of playground fights.
Mrs Harvey, suggests that Sam has changed from being a bubbly and happy boy.
As the Social Worker you attend the family home around mid-day on the day of referral and find Diane Baker and Ted Jones in bed, the door is answered by Sam who is clearly not at school and appears to have made his own arrangements for breakfast. The family home is neglected but clean.
You are told by Diane Baker that you have called on a bad day – that she was up late arguing with her husband after he returned home very late from a gambling club that he often frequents in town. Sam and Diane appear to have a good relationship with a mutual expression of emotional contact. Diane tells Ted that you are here to discuss Sam but he remains in bed. You do not meet Ted on this visit.
Sam appears to be very small for his age but Diane is also small in stature.
It must be relevant to the case study. Please include Assessment under the Children Act 1989. Section 17 & section 47. Assessment Framework. Working together (all professionals). The law on education & how gambling & parents arguing can effect a child’s well-being. And the new “Cinderella” emotional cruelty law.
Include points for and against. e.g. There may be other reasons Sam is aggressive etc
1. Identify the needs of Sam and his family.
2. Identify the legislation and policy that informs your intervention with the family.
3. Identify the theoretical knowledge that informs your assessment.
4. Identify the skills base that you would need to draw on when working
with this family
5. Identify the value base that would inform your practice on this occasion
The Case study exercise is an opportunity to bring together your learning to date in consideration of a case scenario that reflects the reality of practice. You will be assessed on how well you synthesise and integrate the various bodies of knowledge that you now have access to.
Please note that you are not being asked to ‘solve’ the presenting problems or issues but to reflect on the knowledge, skills and values that would inform your practice under such circumstances.
Start by Identifying the key issues presented by the scenario, then reflect on and consider the different types of knowledge that you would draw on when working with such a case; include for example Human Growth and Development, Key Concepts, Inequality and Disadvantage as well as Law and Social Work Processes. Include serious case review too please. Thank you.
