Assessment overview: word limit 1750 words This assessment requires you to construct a report highlighting the importance of intercultural communications. The report should be based around a real-world issue and must draw upon existing academic literature in order to support its conclusions. You may choose your own topic based on one of the general topics below as long as it focuses specifically on issues of intercultural communications. Assessment details: You are required to construct a report based on one of the following topics: • Issues pertaining to a communication in a multicultural workforce. • Overcoming intercultural tensions in Australia through communication • Gender and Intercultural communications • Intercultural communications issues in healthcare • The role of communications in globalisation • Communications Issues in multicultural education. • Media and cultural domination. • The role of intercultural communications in so called ‘terrorist attacks’ • Intercultural etiquette in either media, business or politics • Intercultural communications and social cohesion • • • • 1) Description of the issue • All reports will have to provide a detailed description of the issue to be addressed, including clear evidence about the nature and the extent of the issue. This will constitute the main body of the report and may be broken into several sections detailing different aspects. • Students are encouraged to include tables, graphs and other illustrations where appropriate, however the report will be graded primarily on the quality of the information it presents rather than the presentation of the report. • 2) The relevant literature • This is a research report. In order to properly situate your topic in terms of the relevant literature, each report must contain a detailed literature review of between 5 and 10 academic articles that are pertinent to the topic. While not all articles may be directly about the issue under examination, the discussion in your literature review section of the report must clearly describe how the article is relevant. All references must be submitted in the Harvard referencing style. • 3) Conclusions/recommendations • Depending on the nature of the report, each document must contain a section that summarises the main findings and makes recommendations where appropriate.
