You will submit a critical review of current research literature on a distinct microbial technology. It is expected that you will produce a report which demonstrates the ability to:

• locate and utilise current literature

• write a scientific report to a high standard of scientific English

• critically evaluate the literature utilised

• suggest future areas of study within the specific area discussed

The report should begin with an abstract representing a 200–250-word summary of the review and its major findings. The rest of the report should be divided into well-defined sections and represent, in your own words, a critical analysis of the areas you have researched. This section should be 2,500-3,000 words long.

The topics covered in the Microbial Technology lectures provide examples for each section but you are free to review and analyse the current literature in any relevant microbial based biotechnology.

All citations must be included and references listed using the Harvard system For the purpose of this assessment, current microbiological topics are regarded as those areas of microbiology within which active research is being conducted. The measure of this will be the availability of scientific papers from 2018/19 – present which you are able to include within the report.
